Beginning this semester, the KU School of Business and the Business Analytics Club will present a monthly symposium on topics surrounding data analytics.

Each symposium will feature a guest speaker, allowing students the opportunity to interact with a professional in the industry and learn more about their career options.

Director of business analytics programs and lecturer Chris Claterbos said many people have questions about data and analytics and the series will address why they are vital.

“Data is in all facets of business and our lives,” he said. “Understanding data and how to use it is not just important now, it will be required in the future.”

The first symposium will be 7 p.m. Jan. 25 in the Dicus Family Auditorium (room 1111) at Capitol Federal Hall and will feature Don Wedding, director of data science at Sprint Corp. Wedding will speak about machine learning at Sprint.

Ruben Sigala, executive vice president and chief marketing officer at Caesars Entertainment Corp., will speak on Monday, Feb. 13.

The second symposium planned in the series will be 5:30 p.m Feb. 13. Ruben Sigala, an alumnus of the School of Business, will share his experiences as executive vice president and chief marketing officer at Caesars Entertainment Corp. He will discuss using analytics in the entertainment industry.

The symposiums are open to all School of Business students, faculty and staff, as well as the public.

In the fall, the business school launched its business analytics major and concentration for undergraduate students.
