First off, please introduce yourself.
I am originally from Virginia Beach, Virginia, but I came to KU as a third-generation Jayhawk. I earned my bachelor’s in elementary education and was a licensed teacher in the State of Kansas. I realized my true passion was working with college students.
I have a master’s in higher education administration and previously worked as an academic advisor for years in the former Undergraduate Advising Center and the School of Business. I also worked as a learning assistant with Kansas Athletics. I enjoyed working at the School of Business and with business students, so I decided to pursue my MBA, which I am more than halfway done with. I plan to graduate in May 2025.
When I am not in Capitol Federal Hall, I love spending time with my husband and son. I enjoy cheering on the Jayhawks and KC sports teams.
How did you get involved with professional development at KU School of Business?
I started as an academic advisor at the School of Business in June 2019, so I have seen this program from the discussion and planning stage to what it is today. As an advisor, I was interested in this program and tried to collaborate with the faculty and staff to best support students. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to join the EY Professionalism Program as the internship coordinator this past July. I am very passionate about professional development at the School of Business because I know how important these courses and skills are for our students to have a competitive edge in the job market.
How many students are enrolled in BUS 310: Internships with Impact?
This past summer, we had almost 450 students taking BUS 310. This fall, we currently have 45 students enrolled. We expect even higher enrollment in BUS 310 this summer as most students try to complete their required internship alongside the BUS 310 coursework during the summer.
What’s something that you want students to know about the class?
BUS 310 is an actual class with coursework to complete. Students are expected to take the class while they are actively in their internship. Students are required to earn a passing grade to graduate. The class is online and asynchronous. The course is designed to provide opportunities for students to reflect on their internship experience while also connecting with peers who may be facing similar successes and challenges in their internship.
When do students need to apply to BUS 310 by?
Students should apply for BUS 310 on HireJayhawks by Stop Day the semester before they plan to complete their internship.
What do you hope students take away from the class?
I hope that this class creates an opportunity for students to pause and reflect on what they are doing in their internship. Through these reflections and assignments, I hope it helps students feel more prepared for future interviews as they can speak to their experience from their internship.
Where can students learn more about BUS 310 and how to find internships?
Students can learn more about BUS 310 requirements on the website. If they need additional help finding an internship, I recommend connecting with Business Career Services as it is a great resource.
Is there anything else to add?
It is an honor to work with KU business students. I love connecting with students. If you ever have any questions or concerns related to BUS 310, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at bus310info@ku.edu.
