The Multicultural Business Scholars Program (MBSP) Faculty-Scholar Mentorship Program exists to support student engagement, persistence and retention by connecting students to faculty in the School of Business based on scholars’ majors or career interests.

Through this mentoring program, scholars are able to create intentional relationships with faculty where they can receive guidance surrounding professional development, academic success and personal goals. The mentoring program aims to help scholars navigate their collegiate experience in more successful and fulfilling ways and to develop tools and habits that will serve them beyond their time at KU.

Excited faculty from various disciplines within the School of Business volunteered to serve as mentors.

Trey Jackson, a senior studying accounting, connected with Rachel Green, lecturer and Master of Accounting program co-coordinator. Jackson said he uses Green as a guide to learn more about the Master of Accounting program and how to navigate through his last two semesters of his undergraduate degree.

The Faculty-Scholar Mentorship Program has also been beneficial to Jackson while he prepares for job interviews, getting insights from Green about how to be successful at them. Jackson believes if it were not for MBSP giving him this opportunity, he would have never reached out to Green.

“It is nice to get to develop a relationship with a faculty member because they have so many resources that they can use to help you not only academically but also as we shift into the professional world,” Jackson said.

Jackson has enjoyed his time connecting and networking with Green and said he will continue to use her as a resource even after graduating in May.
