KU School of Business remembers alumnus John “Jack” Dicus
KU School of Business Distinguished Alumnus and Dean’s Advisory Board member emeritus John C. “Jack” Dicus passed away Wednesday, June 19. He was 91 years old.
Dicus was chairman emeritus of Capitol Federal Savings Bank. He began working at the bank in 1959 and was elected president in 1969 and named chairman in 1989. Dicus earned his bachelor’s degree from the KU School of Business in 1955. He received the school’s Distinguished Alumni Award in 1998.
The Dicus family has deep ties to KU, and they have provided generous support and service to the university and the school for many years. In 2012, the bank’s Capitol Federal Foundation made a $20 million lead gift toward the construction of what is now Capitol Federal Hall, the School of Business’ home. It is the largest single gift the foundation has made, and at the time, it was the largest gift in the school’s history.
In 2019, the Capitol Federal Foundation made a gift to the School of Business to name its honors program the Jack Dicus Business Honors Program. The gift commemorated Dicus’ 60 years of service with Capitol Federal Savings Bank.
Dicus served on the KU School of Business Dean’s Advisory Board for nearly 40 years and was a KU Endowment Life Trustee. In 1990, he received the KU Alumni Association’s Fred Ellsworth Medallion, the highest award for service to the university by an alumnus.
“Jack Dicus’ legacy of service and generosity has left a lasting impression on the KU School of Business and will continue to benefit Jayhawks for years to come,” KU School of Business Dean Paige Fields said. “We deeply appreciate his many contributions to our school and will cherish his memory.”
