Since my first day at KU, I have been involved in Emerging Scholars, a research program for first-year students. In this position, I was able to work closely with faculty members and develop a close relationship with both my research and peer mentors. For my second and third year in the program, I have been a peer mentor for about 10 students, giving me the opportunity to guide students through their first year of college and research.

Finance 310, which I took while studying abroad in Italy through CIMBA during summer 2019, with Kelly Welch was my favorite class. Initially, this course was very intimidating to me, but I was fortunate enough to have a professor from the KU School of Business. I found this class very interactive and interesting. I also had the opportunity to get to know the professor, who helped me while applying for the Master of Accounting program.

My best advice for incoming students is to join everything in your interests and try something at least once. Don’t be afraid of rejection and view it as redirection instead. At the end of your college career, which comes very quickly, you won’t want to have any regrets so seize as many opportunities as possible. Ask when you don’t know; it’s okay to not know everything.
