MBSP Senior Farewell: Jalynn Tann

Senior Jalynn Tann reflects on her time as a Multicultural Business Scholar and offers a challenge to incoming students

My most memorable moment at KU was receiving the University Ex.C.E.L. [Excellence in Community, Education and Leadership] Award during halftime of the Homecoming football game. It was an honor to stand in front of fellow Jayhawks and represent my family, community and everyone who has supported me. That moment was special because I have worked hard and had tribulations along the way, but always kept pushing, serving and looking to positively impact those around me. I knew, standing on that field next to my friends, that I had accomplished my goal of leaving a legacy at KU. The sacrifices that were made for me and by me were well worth it.

I would like to thank a few incredible individuals who greatly contributed to my success at KU. Steven Johnson Jr., Nikita Haynie, Cody Charles, Paige Freeman, Jordan Brandt, Alan Jones and Annie Lundeen. You all have pushed me, mentored me, challenged me and championed me. I am forever grateful for your presence in my life. Thank you for being you!

My challenge to incoming students: Unapologetically live in the fullness of who you are, utilize the abundance of resources available to you at KU, don’t be afraid to ask for what you need, stay focused, take risks, remember that sometimes you will have to be your biggest motivator, and don’t forget to have fun on your journey. KU has a lot to offer. So do you. Find the combination that complements both parties, and your experience will produce many opportunities and fond memories.
