My favorite tradition is singing the Alma Mater in Allen Fieldhouse before basketball games. All Jayhawks, past and present, share this special moment with one another. It makes me particularly happy when I go to games with my family! Putting our arms around one another while we sing feels like a tangible link between generations of Jayhawks.
My absolute favorite class was Finance 411 with Felix Meschke. It’s one of those classes people warn you about: tons of group work, high expectations and many late nights. As a sophomore in the class, I was certainly intimidated. However, as the semester moved along, I found myself getting so deeply interested in my classwork that three or four hours would go by, and I would realize it was the middle of the night and my roommates had all gone to bed. That class solidified my passion for finance and gave me an amazing relationship with Professor Meschke, who is always an advocate for me in all my endeavors.
My best advice for the incoming class is to say “yes!” You never know what opportunities will turn out to change your entire college experience. Even if you are just attending an interest meeting, a networking event, or a guest speaker, you don’t know what could happen. Often, the best experiences I’ve had at KU were unplanned and unexpected, so get yourself out there!
