Drew DeRose

Drew DeRose visited the University of Kansas for the first time as a high school senior from Manteno, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, and had a good feeling about campus right away. While DeRose visited a couple other universities, KU remained his first choice, especially after seeing the school’s home, Capitol Federal Hall. He is studying accounting and hopes to one day get his master’s as well as his CPA.

During his first semester, he joined an intramural volleyball team and a flag football team. He enjoys playing these sports and the opportunities they provide to meet new people. He also joined Beta Alpha Psi (BAP), an accounting business fraternity, and hopes this will help him open doors in the future. Additionally, DeRose is part of Christian campus ministry Called to Greatness, which meets weekly. He has met many of his friends through the organization.

After his first college semester, DeRose has learned a lot about independence and has fun being his own boss. Time management is something he worked on throughout last semester, and he has now found a routine he sticks with. Even though transitioning from high school exams to college exams was a difficult task for DeRose, he successfully made it through his first semester with impressive grades.

MBSP has helped him meet more people in the School of Business. He looks forward to his meetings with Director Steven Johnson Jr., who DeRose said is knowledgeable and offers valuable guidance.
