The University of Kansas Undergraduate Business Council is hosting a Diversity Week from Monday, Feb. 21, to Thursday, Feb. 24, to celebrate the diversity of our students, foster DEIB conversations, and connect students to resources in and outside of the School of Business.

In the first Diversity Week since before COVID-19, the UBC plans to expand on the programming of the previous year and re-connect students with organizations across campus that provide services and community for students of diverse backgrounds.

The organization will be taking over the School of Business Instagram and Snapchat from Tuesday through Thursday. To follow along, visit our Instagram @kubschool and Snapchat @kubschool. Keep reading to find out more about the week’s events!

Monday

The first day of Diversity Week will be “flag day” with chalk drawings of flags outside of Capitol Federal Hall. The chalk flags will serve as a visual representation of the diversity of the School of Business and encourage students to reflect on the different countries students around them come from.

Tuesday

On the second day of events, diversity-focused clubs from across campus will be tabling from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Burge Union (Forum A). Some of the organizations attending the event include The Association of Indian Students, Center for Sexuality and Gender Diversity, Chabad Jewish Student Group, Indonesian Student Association, and the Emily Taylor Center for Women and Gender Equity. Each club will bring its own activities, art, giveaways, and more.

“Oftentimes, students find it easier to get involved with clubs specific to their major or within their school,” said UBC Vice President Lauren Kish, “but we wanted to bring together university-wide organizations from different cultural backgrounds to make it easier for students to explore other outlets.”

Wednesday

The third day of the week is called “DEI in the Workforce.” During the day, students can meet with representatives from companies that are passionate about diversity in the workplace including TTI Appliances, Protiviti, EY, and RSDS Appraisal.

In the evening, students can hear from speakers who will discuss their personal experiences with DEI in the workplace. This event will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Nancy Walthall Doane Lecture Hall, 1020 Capitol Federal Hall.

Thursday

The final day of Diversity Week will feature a virtual takeover where the UBC will highlight organizations from Tuesday’s tabling fair on the School of Business’ social media accounts. This will include giveaway raffles and interactive content.
