What have you accomplished with your organization this year?

We have hosted many great speakers from several companies and organizations, including Garmin, Populous, AD2KC and MMGY Global. We have also gone into KC and toured locations, such as Barkley and Dimensional Innovations. Our biggest event this year has been our trip to Minneapolis, where 14 KUMC attendees had the opportunity to tour five businesses, including Best Buy, General Mills, Epsilon, Olson and Carmichael Lynch.

What goals do you still have to achieve?

We are always looking to grow and expand as a club. We are also always pushing ourselves to get in contact with the best speakers possible with the most relevant experiences for our members. We aim to create more networking opportunities for our members.

How does this club benefit students at KU?

KUMC is unique because we are welcoming to all KU students with an interest in marketing. You can be any major in any school, all you need is a passion to learn. In general, marketing is a really broad major in the sense that there are a lot of career options in the future. We bring in speakers from several companies, agencies, and industries, so students get exposed to these options earlier rather than later. Our speakers are also very willing to network, so it is a great way for meeting attendees to get their foot in the door with a potential employer.

Are there any other resources at KU you recommend to students?

Always utilize Business Career Services. They offer networking opportunities, resume advice, job/internship offers, mock interviews, and so much more. I don’t think we will ever have such a powerful tool so close, and so free, ever again. Also, get involved with as many clubs as you can at KU. If nothing else, usually there is free food.

What do you say to people who want to join your organization?

If you want to join, just show up to an event! The best way to find out when those are is through social media. We are always happy to answer questions and we always post our club meetings and reminders on it. Instagram is @KansasMKTG and Facebook is KU Marketing Club. We also answer emails pretty quickly jayhawkmarketingclub@gmail.com. We encourage anyone to come check us out!
